Technologies play a big part in movie making, for example iv used livetype to create my ident.













also final cut express is a major part of movie making because it helps you make credits for the film and add effects it also helps edit the film to its best with cutting shots and trimming them down. YouTube is also a big part in movie making because you are able to upload your final product onto there where everyone can see and comment on how good it is.

Still cameras are a big part as well because you are able to take pictures of what you are doing and use them as feed back and where you can improve. On top of this camcorder are the most important part of filming because they are what make your film with different shots like panning and POV's because they create different moods and give different impressions.

What I have learnt from this experience is it is a lot harder to make a film then what it actually looks like. I have gained many skills from it all, for example i have learnt how to use a camera in the right way for the right situation, I have also learnt how to cut shots at the right points and where to add effects.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Howler shows the gender of man to be a number of things.

Secretive

This character is secretive because at the beginning of the film he is intimidated very easily and he is fearful then he is the feared at the end by the enemy in the closing seconds of the opening.

 Thuggish

This character is seen as a very intimidating man because of the whole “hood” stereotype, although its not a hood his face is only half shown and the black jumper adds to this effect because he stands out in the snow, the thuggish is also shown by the way the character walks, he swings his shoulders back and forth for a menacing view.

False

This character is also shown as false because before character 1 faces character 2, character 2 is mugging character 1 and hitting him but when character 1 faces character 2 he is scared out of his mind and tries to run away.

How the young are shown

The generation of young people are shown as negative mainly, this is the case because character 2 is a complete thug and is horrid in the first half but he is then scared of his victim and character 1 is negative because he deals with the mugging in the wrong way although we don’t see what he does we can get an idea from the ending.

Outline of idea

Preliminary task inspired us with the bullying, we also got our idea from a music video by “bullet for my valentine” “waking the demon”.

What resources will you need?

Setting: woodland/grassland, dark setting.

Actors: Chris Thomson (victim) Daniel Onslow (bully).

Props: fake blood and red contact lenses

Justification of ideas

Bullying is common in all areas and is a message to everyone that you can stand up against bullies and for yourself.

Conventions of the genre

Curious character, young, naïve protagonist, hero wins (false hero), villain antagonist.

American werewolf in London, teen wolf, Van Helsing.

Aimed at 16-24 year olds, thriller- horror lovers, gore lovers, not for the faint hearted.

at this point the bully has punched the victim and pulls him up from the floor.

Bully: [loud and aggressive] give me your money!

Bully grabs victim round the cuff of the collar

Victim:  [shocked] what…. [Scared and fearful] NO!

Bully: [Louder and faster] GIVE ME THE MONEY!

Victim:  fine…here

The money is then exchange, the bully then head butts the victim who falls to the floor.

As bully walks past he spits onto the victim.

One month has past and a full moon is nigh, the bully is walking through the woods

Bully: [commanding but scared] what are you doing!

Victim: where do you think you’re going……aye?

Bully: what are you?

Victim: your worst nightmare

started filming our thriller

Today me, Chris and Daniel Onslow started to film our thriller, the shots we got was the bullying of Chris and the start of the rebelling.

mood bored

This is a mood bored designed to enhance ideas of our thriller, on the mood bored I have put on the bored ideas that have been enhanced from different media processes, one being a music video and another being our preliminary task. Involved on the mood bored is a few target words range from revenge round to domination, and as you can see I have the setting ideas on involved on it. Also the props that will be needed are on here as well.

Me and chris have decided on a thriller to do today, it inloves three bullies and a victim of bullying. It is about revenge, and the victim goes out of his mind because of his bullies. As the opening continues we see al the bad things that they have done to him and we also see what he does to them to we also discover that he isnt completley human and thats why we have named our thriller howler.

The psychological thriller

The suspense created by psychological thrillers often comes from two or more characters preying on each others mind, either by playing deceptive games with the other or by merely trying to demolish the others mental state.
 Sometimes the suspense comes from within one solitary character where characters must resolve conflicts with their own mind. Usually, this conflict is an effort to understand something that has happened to them
for example: Marney and spellbound

Rope tells a story of two friends who kill one of their friends just to see if they can get away with it, when they have committed the murder they hide the body in a big chest which is then used as a dinner table and the suspense is introduced when a party is thrown and the table has lots of food on it and people are eating off it.

Suspense: a scene in a film similar to a classroom, the camera reveals that there is a bomb under the table to the audience but the students are unaware of the bomb being there and we can see that the time of the explosion is at 10:00 and the time is 9:55 so us as the audience are thinking will it blow up or not which leaves an uneasy feeling.

shock: exactly the same scenario but nobody knows that there is a bomb and it destructs which then makes the audience jump.

opening to a thriller

The opening of a thriller is a very important part of the film as they tend to include the setting of the film, they also show the main character being vulnerable or isolated. Sometimes it may include a POV shot of the main character and it involves an element of mystery                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

recipe for a thriller

Thriller is a broad genre of literature, thrillers are called thrillers because of the techniques they contain. They contain fast-pacing action scenes along suspense. Red herrings are also involved in thrillers, red-herrings are when a hero or villain is swapped over to the opposite. For example in North By Northwest Roger Thornhill is a hero but in the film he is portrayed as the villain. In many thrillers there is a pot that is being driven by a villain. Long the way of overcoming the driven plot the hero has to accomplish obstacles in his way to achieve what they want, going back to North by Northwest Roger Thornhill has to accomplish avoiding getting killed by a plane that has been sent to kill him.

Analysis of scenes from north by northwest

• North by Northwest

The drunk driving scene is a brilliant scene in this film as it contains a lot of techniques straight away as they are dragging him to his car we can see that something isnt right in what they are doing, this is also interpretated by the music, it is a worrying-countdown sort of sound, as he is forced into the car the music gives off a confusing feel as though we was Cary Grant and its him feeling all confused in what is happening. When Cary Grant pushes the pulbatrator out of the car the music gets more intense with high pitched notes which is a scared sense because he starts to drive and close-up shot is used to show to terror and fear in Grants face and the suspensions continues to build because a POV shot is then used to show what is happening in the eyes of Grant. Another scene in this film is the plane scene, as this scene starts in the distance we see a car driving offroad towards Grant, landscape shot is used at this point to show where the car is coming from. Moments later a crop duster is seen in the distance and shot/reverse shot is used here to goes from plane to Grant showing that the plane is heading straight towards him, a brilliant moment in this scene is when Grant is running away from the plane and behind Grant we see th plane drawing nearer and nearer and it builds lots of suspense thinking weather its gonna hit him or not. Imediatly after Grant stands in the middle of the road flagging down a lorry, a freat ammount of suspense is built here because he stands infront of the lorry and the lorry continues to bib but it doesnt seem to slow down and it also does shot/reverse shot with Grant and the lorry. Also there is no music in this scen which can show that it is deserted, also there is only two lines of dialogue which means the scene was told visually like many Alfred Hitchcock scenes.

• Memento

Starts with a fade in of a picture which straight away makes the audience think what this might be and the music is sad music which enhanses what this picture may mean or be. We then see that is a blood bath in a room of what looks like a murder and the person holding the picture shakes it which could mean that it had just been taken and the photographer may be the culperate of the blood bath, the taker keeps shaking the photo and as the scene progresses we discover that it is going back in time because the picture begins to fade out and the shot goes back into the camera and we discover that the taker is the murder and it was a shooting.

A Maguffin is the plot of a film in which the audience are able to identify and in notorious (1946) the Maguffin is a spy who has to find out about a group of Nazi friends and how far she will go to find out the information she needs.

definition and examples of suspense

Suspense-a state of feeling excited or anxious about what is gonna happen next in a film or scene, for example in sabotage when the fire breaks out and Ken is given the fire extinguisher we are on edge as to weather it will work or not. In children of men a suspense building scen is the car scene, and Jullian is shot and we are unaware of weather she is gonna make it alive after the shot. Finally in rope, suspension is in the opening scene, as we hear the scream we wonder what it is that behjind the curtain.

• Some film makers will claim that 'there are no rules' or that 'rules are made to be broken'. However most would agree that there are certain conventions that mainstream films observe in order for them to be acceptable to the mass audience.
  A man named Chuck Jones made certain rules for the road runner cartoon which he created..              Road runner cannot harm or upset the coyote except by going ‘Meep Meep!’
• No outside force can harm the coyote only his own ineptitude or the failure of ACME products.
• The coyote could stop anytime if he wasn’t a fanatic.
• No dialogue used ever except ‘Meep Meep!’
• The road runner must stay on the road – otherwise, logically, he would not be called a road runner.
• All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters – the south west American desert.
• All materials, tools, equipment, or mechanical conveniences must be obtained from ACME Corporation.
• When ever possible, make gravity the coyote’s greatest enemy.
• The coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.

Alfred Hitchcock the master of suspense

Made 52 in 50 years of his filming career. He first started making silent films and became making psychological thrillers in 1956. Towards the end of his career he became known as the greatest british film maker. He claimed himself to be a typed director quoting that if he made Cinderella the audience would be looking for a dead body in the coach. His top films were: rear window, vertigo, notorious, north by northwest, shadow of a doubt, the 39 steps, psycho, rope, dial m for murder and lifeboat. Most of Alfred's Hitchcock films contained a character who gets framed for a crime they didn't commit.

the conventions contained in psycho are a few. Suspense is involved all throughout the film, fast paced action scenes are also used for example in the shower scene the shots are all quick and fast. Also there is a curious character who is Norman.
